NOTTINGHAM

Nottingham has a wide range of culture and activities to suit all tastes. Two universities, a teaching hospital and many major employers ensure the city is a busy and on on the ball.

The Nottingham Contemporary is one of the UK's finest new art spaces and opened in late 2009 with an exhibition from David Hockney. Located in a purpose-built gallery in the historic Lace Market area, it is one of the largest contemporary art centres in the UK.

The city has two major theatres, the Nottingham Playhouse and the Royal Centre. Both of these show a wide variety of touring and home-grown plays as well as nationally-known comedians and musicians.

The city has a wide range of historical bars and pubs, including some of the oldest inns in the country. Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem dates back to 1189AD and is widely believed to be the oldest pub in England. Not far behind it, however, are Ye Olde Saluation (1240) and The Bell Inn (1437). Alternatively if you fancy a drink in the UK's only pub with a canal running through it, head down to Nottingham's waterfront and The Canalhouse.

There is a wide variety of restaurants in the city and Conference Centre staff can provide you with a list of local recommended restaurants to suit all tastes.

More information on restaurants and other local attractions can be found on the Visit Nottingham website.
